Elston Chardonnay
30.80€
Elston, an outstanding New Zealand Chardonnay, is sourced from Te Mata Estate's oldest vineyards between the Bridge Pa Triangle and Dartmoor sub-regions. Its richness and complexity are revealed in flavours of fresh pineapple, white peach and nougat.
-
Immediate aroma of fresh golden nectarines, passion fruit and grilled pineapple.
-
Bright white-gold colour.
-
Ripe acidity drives the wine's length and balance, carrying the mouthfeel from ripe sweet lemon and white peach, to crème brûlée, roasted cashews, popcorn, mineral tones and flint.
ORIGIN: Elston is named after Elston Hall in Nottinghamshire, the ancestral home of Charles Darwin's family. Darwin's "theory of natural selection" is the basis of modern evolutionary theory, the foundation of biology. The Elston Hall winged dragon symbol appears on the label.
VINEYARDS: The excellent quality of the vintage was immediately evident in the fully ripe grapes, harvested by hand from individual plots within the Te Mata Estate vineyards.
WINEMAKING: Each parcel was gently pressed with whole bunches, cold clarified and transferred to new and used French oak barrels for fermentation. The resulting wines remained in contact with their lees with some undergoing malolactic fermentation. The best lots were selected for further maturation, spending a total of 10 months in barrel.
AGEING POTENTIAL: Elston is bottled with technologically advanced 'DIAM' corks. These are produced using a liquid form of carbon dioxide, which eliminates any possibility of cork taint and, when the wine is properly stored, provide a consistent evolution for each bottle. It will continue to evolve in the bottle for five years from harvest.
