CHARDONNAY LENSWOOD VINEYARD 2020
Style: A refined Chardonnay that reflects the vintage conditions and the unique character of this vineyard.
The 2020 vintage shows great fruit intensity, with floral, lemon cream and mineral notes. The multi-layered texture is balanced by high acidity.
Season: The growing season in 2020 had two key features. Cool and windy weather during flowering resulted in very low yields, and a lovely cool February provided excellent flavour and acidity.
Provenance: From blocks three and four in our Lenswood Vineyard. First planted in 1999, with east and west orientations and an altitude of 500 metres above sea level. The soil is brown silt over clay with some broken shale and stone on the ridges.
Vinification: Whole bunches were cooled overnight, then pressed before fermentation in new and used 500-litre French oak barrels. The wine spent a further 10 months in barrel with gentle stirring.
Background: Since acquiring the vineyard in 2012, significant investment has been made to further enhance the site. It had always shown potential for a single site wine and in 2014 a small amount was selected for our first 'Lenswood Vineyard' Chardonnay.
Serving: The ideal temperature is 10-12°C.
Ageing potential: Will reward careful ageing for up to 10 years.
