VINEYARD AND HARVEST CONDITIONS: The estate that Escorihuela 1884 owns in Agrelo is located in a low area of Luján de Cuyo. This condition allows the cold winds coming down from the Andes Mountains to be boxed in the vineyard generating a cold climate and an excellent thermal amplitude. This effect is mainly due to the fact that to the east of the region there is a hill that encloses it. The soil is homogeneous, with clay to sandy loam profiles that allow the necessary retention of rainwater. Soils that ensure good drainage, root development of the plants and ensure a natural control of the vigour of the vines, with good balance in the fruit. The wines obtained with grapes from this vineyard stand out for their volume, alcohol content, intensity, ageing potential and sense of place.
The 2021 season was colder than 2020, with a higher incidence of rainfall from January to March, which resulted in slow and gradual ripening of the grapes. Late frosts, which occur in spring, affected yields of white varieties throughout the province, with less intensity on red varieties. In terms of quality and health, the grapes were remarkable, with high colour concentration and adequate polyphenolic ripeness in red grapes, good sugar content and acidity, which made this vintage unique and memorable.
