LENSWOOD VINEYARD PINOT NOIR 2019

Style: A Pinot Noir of finesse and fragrance, with fresh acidity and subtle layers of flavour and texture. Deep in colour, with aromas of red fruits and spice. Complex and dense, with a bright palate and a savoury finish.

Season: The 2019 growing season challenged even the most experienced and well-equipped growers. Those who knew how to take advantage of it produced small vintages of very clean fruit with wonderful flavour and intensity. Natural acidity is prominent in all the wines despite the hot, dry summer.

Provenance: Sourced from block one in our Lenswood Vineyard. First planted in 1999, with east and west orientations and an altitude of 500 metres above sea level. The soil is brown silt over clay with some broken shale and stone on the ridges.

Vinification: The grapes were harvested and sorted by hand, then poured into open fermenters, either as whole bunches (approximately 20%) or whole destemmed berries. A long, gentle fermentation and maceration took place, followed by 10 months in new (30%) and used French oak barrels. Unfiltered and unclarified.

Background: First planted in 1999, our Lenswood Vineyard combines high altitude, mature vines and diverse orientations, including cool east and south facing blocks. It is a great source of wines that can stand out as single vineyard releases, with the balance to reward ageing.

Ageing potential: Will reward careful ageing for up to 12 years.
