Shiraz 2019

Style: The Shaw + Smith Shiraz is a cool-climate, medium-bodied Shiraz where balance is more important than power.
The 2019 vintage exhibits balance and elegance, with concentrated red and blue fruits, perfumed aromatics and great flow on the palate.

Season: The 2019 growing season challenged even the most experienced and well-equipped growers. Those who knew how to take advantage of it produced small vintages of very clean fruit with wonderful flavour and intensity. Natural acidity is prominent in all the wines despite the hot, dry summer.

Origin: Sourced from low yielding vineyards in Balhannah and the central Adelaide Hills.

Vinification: Harvested by hand and fermented with a combination of whole bunches and whole clusters (40%) in open fermenters, with gentle pumping over and minimal work. Aged in French oak for fourteen months, one third of which is new.

Background: The Adelaide Hills have proven that they can produce truly exciting Shiraz. The key is careful site selection, low yields and moderate use of oak.

Serve: Decant and enjoy with slow cooked shredded lamb. The ideal temperature is 16-18°C.

Ageing potential: It has the concentration and structure to develop fine tertiary characters in bottle for the next 15 years.
